Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park is one of the bigger national parks and is located in southwest Texas bordering Mexico. It encompasses the Chisos mountain rage and parts of the Chihuahuan Desert. On your way to the park, I recommend not going below half a tank of gas as there are not many gas stations around. There are two gas stations located in the park, but it is not guaranteed that they will be open. There are a few gas stations in Terlingua, but that is a little ways outside of the park.

You will have many hikes to choose from as there is more than 150 miles of trails. No matter what time of the year you go, make sure you bring plenty of water and then some more. Resources are slim and the southwest Texas sun does not play nicely. The temperature is generally a little cooler up in the Chisos mountains. If you plan on camping, make reservations in advance if you can. Camping spots fill up quick. Also bring bear proof containers if you plan on staying a few days and have food with you. The Chisos is bear and mountain lion country.
